Dear Esteemed Arts Alumni of Texas Southern University,

The University Museum is excited to invite you back home on Wednesday,
October 26th for a day of community, memories, and new opportunities.
Please join us starting at 11:00 am for a day of events, beginning with brunch.
Throughout the course of the day, there will be time for alumni to reconnect
with each other, share ideas with members of the museum staff, and look
towards the future. From 5 to 7pm, we will conclude with a reception for
the Art Faculty Show and a ceremony honoring Professor Jesse Sifuentes on
the occasion of his retirement.

In addition, UMUSE is thrilled to announce our participation in the HBCU
History and Culture Access Consortium. This initiative by the National Museum
of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), is a collaborative project
whose goal is to build and preserve the legacy of African Americans artists at
HBCU’s across the nation.

Texas Southern University along with Jackson State, Clark Atlanta,
Florida A&M and Tuskegee University will host a joint project that seeks to
expand the spotlight on each of you and your work, which will be presented and
preserved for future researchers, art students and the general public. We would
love for you to lend your voices to this project, by contributing your stories
through an interview on your work and experiences as a student. We are also
creating a historical archive of visual arts at TSU. If you have documents that might
contribute, please bring them with you! We will scan them on-site and return them to you immediately. If you’ll be in attendance on Wednesday October 26th, please RSVP by email at so we know how much food to order!
And even if you can’t make it, we would still love to hear from you! Please reach
out to us if you would like to be interviewed for the project and we can set up a time to speak in-person, over the phone, or virtually.
