Passion For Fashion 2016 Awards Luncheon
Press Release : Emerging Talent

Houston, TX – Look to experience an unusual explosion of color on June 10th of 2016. Your senses will be alerted that something extraordinary is about to happen.

This is an event that promises to present extraordinary new talents from near and far. Some have visited this stratosphere before. Others – you may think are completely out of this world. They will convene for an event of eye-popping show-stopping display of tributary creativity. It’s a fashion show… It’s an art exhibit… And it’s all for the sake of art.

For the Sake of Art is a biennial wearable art competition that celebrates the vibrant talent of emerging artists and designers. The event is a fundraiser for the University Museum at Texas Southern University. This year, For the Sake of Art will honor Shelby Marcus and the legacy of artist Kermit Oliver, a Texas Southern art graduate who has achieved worldwide acclaim. Shelby Marcus is the widow of Lawrence Marcus, whose family founded the legendary Dallas department store Neiman Marcus. Kermit Oliver is the only American artist who has designed for Hermès. His art work imprinted on Hermès scarves have become collector's items for women throughout the world. Designers and artists entering For the Sake of Art 2016 competition will base their wearable art designs on a work of art by this distinguished artist.

The stars collide only every two years to raise vital funds and bring awareness of the superlative gem on the campus of Texas Southern University: The University Museum. This museum serves as a beacon for the young and old seeking to enrich their lives through the beauty of world cultures, art and history. You won’t want to miss this event!
